Single Review:
"Hard To Love"
Humbly branding herself as “just a girl who loves to sing”, singer-songwriter and musician Samsara has dazzled music listeners with her richly-toned, lavish voice, which has been at the forefront of a variety of ear-catching singles (Feel, Blame It on the Rain) and most recently, an EP release, Love Upside Down.
Samsara’s distinct vocal stylings span a diverse section of genres including country, pop, jazz, rock and selections in the adult contemporary space. Today, we are going to spotlight a spectacular track from her new EP which is titled, “Hard to Love”. The heart-stirring ballad is an intimately personal song and composition which was conceived directly out of Samsara’s life experience. She provides some further context into the song as she explains how it all developed….
I fell in love with someone over the internet long distance. My EP “Love Upside Down” chronicles the journey of watching him sleep through a screen “Long Distance Lullaby” (due to the time difference) and imagining all the things we could do together in person if he “Made My Dreams Come True,” and we had the “Love For All Time,” we hoped for. Ultimately, he told me on my birthday that it was harder for him to love me than he expected. I decided maybe it was just too hard for him to love me and the song was “birthed.”
– Samsara
Wow! Going against the grain of the old saying that life imitates art, in this circumstance, art imitates life. Samsara does a tremendous job conveying the theme and sentiment of the song via a pristine, emotive vocal performance.
Her vocal inflections encompass you as a listener with how demonstrative and expressive her delivery is, gravitating you to every segment of the lyrical content. Samsara provides an engaging performance which projects the genuine place and emotional impact from which these lyrics derive from.
It all flows extremely well with the song’s instrumentation which is a smorgasbord of music; containing quintessential country music elements including a twangy, high pitched electric guitar. However, the song also includes a buoyant piano riff which gives the song a mystique of nostalgia, sounding similar to a 60’s ballad or something that could have been placed in the original Grease soundtrack.

Lyrics to Samsara’s “Hard to Love”
Sometimes you win
And sometimes you lose in love
Either way, I end up with the blues
What matters most in the end they all say
It all comes down to how you play the game
They say all is fair in love and war
But I don’t know what we were fighting for
Maybe these rules
Only apply to fools
And those who are keeping the score
I found it easy
Simple to do
The things we were dreaming of
And me loving you
You said it’s harder
Than it should be
Maybe it’s just too hard for you to love me
Why is it harder than it should be?
Baby, maybe you just can’t love me
Oh I found it easy
Simple to do
The things we were dreaming of
And me loving you
You said it’s harder
Than it should be
I think it’s just too hard for you to love me
What matters most in the end they all say
It all comes down to how you play the game
It’s all about how, how you play
